In 2012 I had such a great golfing year – reaching scratch for the first time and being able to maintain it for most of the year was something I never dreamed of being able to achieve. This enabled me to qualify for the NSW Open which is a Pro tournament where they allow some amateurs to make up the numbers in the field. You can get an exemption if you are in a State Team or in the Elite Squad or your handicap needs to be Scratch or better. Luckily for me, I managed to just scrape in!
Bing Lee Fujitsu Women’s NSW Open is a 54 hole event, it is played at Oatlands. This event is part of the ALPG Tour with limited amateur players field. Spectators are welcome and entrance is free, so come along and support us.

Last year I was so nervous, I could not concentrate as every time I bent over to hit the ball I felt like I was having an anxiety attack – my heart was pulsating in my throat the worst feeling ever. So I was desperate to play again and therefore made it my 2013 goal to qualify. Last year I had rounds of 86 and 83, 25 over par – I got the most value out of my entrance fee out of the Amateurs BUT I didn’t come last. Some people didn’t finish and I was only second last out of the people who finished – but my mum still loved me! Trish was my caddy and my saviour, we had an absolute ball over the two days + practice round – it was an amazing experience and I highly recommend putting it on your goal list. It was also so amazing to have my husband and friends following me, even though I knew they were itching to pop across the fairway and watch Lydia Ko or Laura Davies.
Here are some photos from last year.
