What a cracker it was today, blue skies, packed powder – things just don’t get much better. Jen has woken up with a cold, so not feeling too great but has a one on one lesson with Danni for 2 hours. Sid graciously woke up early to accommodate. John and Sid skied the morning together, their goal for the day was “the boys want to have fun” and they achieved that goal. Neil and I skied together, Neil’s goal was to ski Meadows without stopping – which he did several times, mine was to ski meadows with skis together and I believe I did that – that was after a hairy start. I should have known that something was amiss when i did not have the strength to push my boot into the bindings on my right leg. We had a ski and there was no way that I could ski on – so we had to stop whilst I went and took some drugs. Much better, still no strength but bearable – phew, I thought it was going to be one long boring day. Jen was having her lesson and whilst on the chair lift we could follow her progress on the nursery slopes. Then about half an hour later we saw her on the chair lift going up Meadows Express – oh my word, I thought that was days away. She was skiing so well and controlled – unbelievable. We all met for lunch and had a glorious break, rest in the sun and told our stories. Neil and Sid tried out pizza and raved about it. John, Neil and Sid then went off together and Jen and I went out together. I had to stop after a an hour or so, my feet were killing me in my new $$$$ boots, I think that my foot has not been in that position for that long and I had a permanent cramp on, 18 hours on and my arches still haven’t relaxed – not sure what is going on. Neil went down steeper slopes this afternoon and had a few tumbles and his back and knee are sore. Sid, Jen and John are all tired but fit as fiddles. Except for Jen’s cold of course, she is being a brave little soldier.
Off to Sasso tonight, a smaller party than planned with Jen staying home and Neil keeping her company. I am off to the boot maker to resolve my achey arch issues.
The boot maker knew exactly what the issue was and has ground down the orthotics on the heel and mad the arch a little more flexible – I have to ski with normal inner soles tomorrow morning then the orthotics in the afternoon to help get used to them.
Some photos and videos from the day.
