Roadtrip – Lisbon to Algarve

With the aid of a few glasses of Portuguese Red, we both had a good nights rest, in a very comfortable bed, we went for breakfast in our hotel.  We loved everything about this hotel and it didn’t stop with the breakfast, which you could eat indoors or outdoors on the terrace.

We met Chris and Wilma who are now living in Cascais which is about a 50 min train journey from Lisbon.  We had a leisurely walk to a cafe for a coffee and a lot of chat – catching up on the few years since we last saw them.  It was so great to see them, they haven’t changed a bit – just like old times.  We had a short walk through the narrow streets which John had expertly navigated the night before, browsing at the pottery shops.  Apparently Alfama, which is the area in which we were staying is renowned for its narrow winding streets.  Chris and Wilma gave us a few tips on Portuguese etiquette basic language tips and we were set for the rest of our holiday.

We now had to drive 266km south to Almancil where we were meeting up with Johns mum (Pat) and brother (Richard), his wife Caz and their kids Sam and Jack. I wanted to go across the 17km long bridge but Wilma suggested that we go the shortest and more historic route which is over a bridge that looks just like the golden gate which is guarded by Christ the Redeemer – very similar to that in Rio.  Great recommendation Wima – it was so scenic.

We arrived in one piece and the Villa lived up to expectations except for the bathrooms which are a bit tired.  It is going to suit us well for the next fortnight, lots of space, an orchard, about an acre of gardens, a pool, ping pong table – you really couldn’t ask for me. Well a butler would be nice.
