We had another day trip planned, this time into Albufeira – the old town. This is probably the biggest seaside town, which has grown and grown. Pat had holidayed here 30 years ago and she didn’t recognise it! The old town is charming, but sadly the tourism demand and catering to the Brits has taken away some of that charm – there are cobbled streets lined with British bars showing football matches. Tourist shops selling lilos seem to be in every 3rd or 4th store.
Where we parked we came across this restaurant with a view overlooking the beach. The beach is way below the old town which is set on the side of a cliff. You take a lift about 5 stories down to the beach. Heaps of activities, and inflatable park for the kids – you name it it is available on the beach.
Then it was back to Villa for a swim and a cool down and then off to Faro airport to pick up Nick and Daph. Nick and John used to go to University together in Manchester and are great mates, we were both very excited to see them. Their plane was early and we struggled to find them as the airport is under construction – we eventually got them and we haven’t stopped catching up. It has been 3 years since we were last together in Madrid, so there is a lot to talk about.
There is a lot of fun had in and about the pool, with the culmination in the Lilo Race!
Did we make Pat laugh? Well what do you think with the shenanigans that are going on here in the pool.
