Day 2 – Massage & Skiing for the tough….

In my mind one of the best feelings is opening the curtains to find white snow covering everything, it is absolutely magical.  There is one other feeling that tops that and that is seeing your sister’s face light up when she sees it, can get to walk on it and make a snow ball.  Jen and Neil were texting photos from their bedroom, it was worth the trip to just see their excitement.

I have to admit one of the downfalls of staying in a place with 4 stories are the stairs and it is a great measure of how people are feeling after skiing.  Prior to skiing you don’t hold the hand rail you climb the stairs two at a time and you go down the stairs facing forward, normal right!  Well yesterday morning after the day of skiing, not only did everyone hold the hand rail whilst going up pr down, they walk up one by one and down in a side ways crab like movement.  Stiff Az bro…..

Jen and I booked in for an hour and a half massage – that was heavenly.  We were then going to do a long walk as we wanted to warm up our legs, so we meandered in and out most of the shops.  We added a few free weights in there having to carry heavy shopping bags.

Neil and Sid had a leisurely walk into town and found the Irish Pub, found out that the Irish in Queenstown cannot make a curry and they watched the All Blacks beat Samoa.  They were two little happy vegemites.

John and Birdie ventured up the mountain after Birdie had gone into town to fix his ski boots and came away with a new pair.  The two of them went to Coronet Peak and had the trials and tribulations of snow chain mania!  Apparently the snow chains that we have bear absolutely no resemblance to the chains that we diligently studied up on.  Isn’t that a bummer.  Some bloke took pity on them and helped them – hope they remember as we need them again this morning.  Unfortunately they skied all day in cloud with only be there in 10 minutes visibility – they talked more about the tumbles rather than the views.

Whilst on Jen and my very long walk, we went to renew our passes (major achievement Jen bought a 5 day pass) fantastic.  Jen got some new hire ski boots (loser ones) and I purchased a new set of custom fitted boots which involved a whole lot of heating up of feat and boots and orthotic making etc.

This morning we are off to Coronet and it is shaping up to be a goodie, will let you know how we get on later.
